This DLC contains the full soundtrack found in Oblivion, minus the ~15 second "death" and "success" tracks. It installs to <steampath>\/steamapps\/common\/Oblivion\/Oblivion Soundtrack. There's no need to discuss the quality of the tracks themselves -- they're Jeremy Soule compositions; 'nough said.

These are MPEG Layer-3 files, which is disappointing to those expecting lossless (such as FLAC) or superior lossy (such as Vorbis) codecs for this soundtrack. While the base game already comes with its soundtrack under <steampath>\/steamapps\/common\/Oblivion\/Data\/Music, the advantage to this DLC is the addition of track metadata for easy music player integration, as well as the high-quality bitrate of 320 kb\/s (up from the base game tracks' 192 kb\/s).

It would have been nice if Bethesda had provided an easy way to replace the in-game versions of the songs with these higher-quality versions; though this may be possible manually via painstaking file moving\/renaming.

Ultimately, I think the asking price (currently $10) is just too much for what is being presented here. The bump in quality isn't significant enough to justify a re-purchase of content the player already bought with the base game, especially considering the tracks cannot be immediately used within the game itself. This would have been more suitable as an "HD Soundtrack" free DLC, similar to those released for Skyrim. Releasing this soundtrack in a lossless codec would have made it a far more recommendable purchase.

Full media info (from VLC):
Codec: MPEG Audio layer 1\/2 (mpga)
Type: Audio
Channels: Stereo
Sample rate: 44100 Hz
Bits per sample: 32
Bitrate: 320 kb\/s
